santorini

Santorini is an island that belongs to Greece. It got its name, thanks to the sailors, that reached that place and built a church in a name of St Irene. Santorini is essentially what remains after an enormous volcanic eruption that destroyed the earliest settlements on a formerly single island and created the current geological caldera.

Santorini generally experiences two seasons. April to October is the warm and dry season and the cold and rainy season lasts from November to March. There are three kinds of beaches: white, red and black. Of course it refers to the color of the sand. As i said it is a volcanic island, so that is why there are 3 types of beaches. What is interesting, on the island are the around 300 sacral places like churches and chapels. It is because in the past, when sailors were leaving for a long time their homes, relatives were building chapels or other sacral, where they could pray for a safe coming back. Probably the most characteristic thing of the island are two colors. White and blue. You may ask why… So it is all connected with the hot. White reflects the light and that is why inside the house is not so hot, and blue helps to protect from the unwelcomed flies.
